USS Hornet (CVS-12) recovered the Apollo 11 astronauts on July 24, 1969, and four months later, recovered Apollo 12 - Nasa's first two missions that landed men on the moon.
In observance of the 40th anniversary of these historic space flights, the Hornet Museum, on July 25, 2009 hosted Buzz Aldrin (Apollo 11 moonwalker) where he addressed a 'standing
room only' crowd in the hangar bay.
